Stampendous Hummingbird Vine & Small Hellebore

2019-04-27 09.18.18
Welcome to my blog!  I’d like to share two cards I recently made using brand new stamps from Stampendous!  The larger blossom stamp is called Small Hellebore and the floral spray is from another set, Hummingbird Vine!  I didn’t intend to combine them originally, but they just seemed to be made for each other, so here they are!
2019-04-27 09.19.28
I actually colored the floral spray while visiting my Mom a few weeks ago and later colored in Small Hellebore.  I searched through my patterned paper scraps and found this beautiful brown, pink and green paisley print and although you can’t see much of it, I think it beautifully enhances the colored image, don’t you?  I embossed an ivory card base with the lovely Floral Tapestry embossing folder by Sizzix then attached the layered panel and finally, mounted the larger flower with some bits of foam tape.  I stamped the sentiment in brown ink directly to the card base.

Here’s a close up shot of my water-bespeckled blossom!  I used Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers to color it because they’re so juicy and inky and water-reactive!  In retrospect, I can’t believe I didn’t add my usual spatters of paint!!

Can you see my mistake on this photo?!  I’d stamped the sentiment (from Unity Stamp’s My Condolences set) onto the inside panel, but it was crooked so I flipped it over and stamped it on the other side, not noticing that the first one shows through!  Argh!  But don’t worry!  I’ll redo this inside panel which shows a larger portion of that pretty patterned paper I used on the front!

In case you’re wondering if this is the exact same card, I assure you, it isn’t!  I decided to make two of these because I liked how the two stamps paired so nicely!  The background on this card is a piece of patterned paper from Simon Says Stamp’s June 2018 Card Kit!  I stamped a few Small Hellebore over it and attached it to my white card base.  Again, I used the same patterned paper behind my floral spray panel and mounted the larger blossom in the same manner as well.

So….an interesting thing about THIS card!!  I didn’t see that a brown ink pad had dropped onto my layered panel until AFTER I took pictures and then began my editing!!  I couldn’t believe it!!  My beautiful panel, ruined!!  But I decided to go with it as it does look as though I did it on purpose to add shading!  But, ARGH!!  Oh well!  I stamped the sentiment onto the front and called it a day!  I hope you enjoyed this and be sure to go check out all the beautiful stamps by Stampendous!  As always, thank you for your visit to my blog!

Hero Arts Large Posy X Three!

2018-08-05 15.09.58
I recently purchased this beautiful flower stamp, Large Posy by Hero Arts, from a member of a Facebook stamping group I’m a part of.  It’s a great way to add new and not-so-new stamps to our collections!  And you may know by now that watercoloring large florals is my favorite!  I made three cards with Large Posy and this is the first!  I heat-embossed the image in black onto a piece of watercolor card stock, then scribbled the Zig markers into the areas with the most black lines.  I then used a wet paintbrush to move the color, adding more color to deepen the shadows.  This is a really quick and easy way to effectively watercolor!
2018-08-05 15.10.54
When the flowers were dry, I smooshed Mowed Lawn distress ink onto my craft mat, added lots of water then painted the background with it.  By picking up more ink, and less water I was able to create a darker area around the blossoms.  I dried the panel with a heat tool, then dripped water droplets onto the background.  How about that grid pattern?!  I pressed a grid stencil in the wet ink and then laid it onto the card being sure to only let the design go where the green area was.  I die-cut two “prayers” from another set I bought from the group member (Hero Arts Stamp & Cut Prayers) and then heat-embossed the remaining sentiments onto strips of card stock and attached them all to my card front.  Lastly, I spattered some black paint then mounted the panel to a base card of white.
2018-08-05 15.13.19
For my second card, I heat-embossed in white onto watercolor card stock, then watercolored the blossom with a couple purple Zig markers and a wet paintbrush.  When it was dry, I again smooshed distress oxide ink onto my craft mat (Squeezed Lemonade), watered it down and painted it all around the flower.  Another set I bought from the group is CTMH’s Beloved Blossoms and I inked up one of the stamps with Fossilized Amber and stamped it over the damp yellow background.  THEN, I inked up Stampin’ Up’s Dictionary with Iced Spruce distress oxide ink and after covering up the flower with a quickly torn “mask” of paper towel, I added that to the background!
2018-08-05 15.14.43
I trimmed the panel down, adhered it to a white layer then to a gray base card.  I don’t recall who makes the sentiment but I heat-embossed that directly to the card front.  Finally, a few faux droplets strategically placed were the final detail for my card!
2018-08-05 15.16.26
Last, but not least, this pink and gold beauty was the final card I made with Large Posy.  I heat-embossed the image twice in gold onto watercolor card stock, then created my background in the same manner.  Smoosh distress oxide ink, water it down, paint it onto the panel.  Add drops of water for a little interest, stamp over it with my script stamp and done!  The flowers were painted with just a little of the oxide inks that were on my mat.
2018-08-05 15.15.39
I trimmed my panel down then used a corner rounder on two corners, added a strip of gold glitter paper to one side and attached it to my white base card.  I had this embossed sentiment in my stash, so trimmed one end to a banner and adhered it with two big gold brads.  I’m especially fond of pink and gold together and so I especially like this card!  I hope you do too!  🙂

Altenew Meets Brutus Monroe!

2018-07-27 14.26.49
I love this pairing of Altenew’s Layered Floral Cover die with the Drybrush Foil Transfer Sheet from Brutus Monroe! Have you heard about the newest collaboration between Deco Foil and Brutus Monroe?!  A custom line of foils is now available and I used one of them for my card today!  I’m waiting for an Amazon order of a pretty inexpensive laminator to arrive, so in the meantime, I kept this project simple! To create this card, I first cut a sheet of the foil to fit my A2 card base and attached it with adhesive.  I then ran a piece of white cardstock and the bottom layer of the Floral Cover die through my Cuttlebug, and then a piece of black with the top layer of the die.  (The lighting in my photo makes the white cardstock have a pink tinge, but it’s crisp white in real life!)
2018-07-27 14.26.45
After I cut the two coordinating dies, I simply attached the white layer to the foil then glued the black layer over it.  How easy was that?!  My sentiment is from Brutus Monroe’s elegant set called Sharon’s Script and I heat-embossed it in black onto a strip of white cardstock, trimmed the end and lifted it with a strip of foam tape.

This was a very simple card to make and I love how the lines on the foil look almost like rain in the background!  There are so many fabulous projects already made by the Inspiration Team so take a look at the blog!  And I hope you’ll take the time to check out all the newly released foils and supplies in stock at the store and online at Brutus Monroe!  I’m eager to stretch myself with these new-to-me products and when that laminator arrives, I’ll find new ways to use them!  Thanks for stopping by today!

Coloring Book to Card!

2018-05-15 15.52.56
I received Splash of Color, a painting/coloring book for Christmas and decided it was high time I used it!  I love that the images are printed on heavy watercolor paper!  I cut this particular page into five pieces and here’s the first one I finished!  I used Zig markers and a waterbrush; when the image was dry I spattered droplets of water, as I often do!  Oh, and black spatters of paint!!
2018-05-15 15.53.31
After painting the image, I cut it down using Gina Marie Designs Stitched Oval dies, then cut a slightly larger layer in lime green.  I ran my gray card base through the Cuttlebug with an embossing folder to give it added dimension, then mounted the ovals onto that, lifted with another oval of fun foam.
2018-05-15 15.53.58
Lastly, I stamped and cut the sentiment using Hero Arts Ribbon Messages; I used scraps of watercolor paper and adhered three banners together to form the thick one I attached to the card.

This is the second card I made using one of the pieces I cut down from a page in Splash Of Color painting/coloring book.  This time I used Gina Marie Designs Stitched Circle dies.  I embossed the vanilla base card with a large dots embossing folder to mimic the circles.  The sentiment is Label Love by Altenew.    I really enjoyed the simplicity of creating with pre-printed images!

Prismacolor Pencils on Black

2017-10-02 16.46.46
Last summer I was inspired by a card from Yana Smakula, made by using Prismacolor pencils on black card stock!  I never would have thought of this technique and couldn’t wait to make one myself!  To begin, I heat-embossed in gold the leaves from Altenew’s Beautiful Day stamp set onto black card stock, and began to color them in.  It was a little challenging to work around the raised lines of the embossed images, but loved how the color popped on the black!  When I finished coloring in the leaves, I simply cut the black panel down to layer over a piece of metallic gold card stock, then mounted it onto a white card base which I’d run through the Cuttlebug with Stampin Up’s Petal Burst embossing folder.  Finally, I embossed the sentiment in gold onto a scrap of black, lifted it with a piece of foam tape, then attached a few gold sequins to the card front.
2017-10-02 16.46.11
After making the card above, I wanted to try it again with another set, so I pulled out Winter Flowers by Simon Says Stamp, heat-embossed the images in gold onto the black card stock, and again, colored with Prismacolor pencils.  I just love how creamy and translucent the color is on the black!  The Greetings stamp was heat-embossed in gold as well, and mounted onto a strip of the gold paper.  I put this card together in the same manner as the first, but without embossing the base card.  Thanks to Yana for her continual inspiration!

The Ton Magnificent Magnolias

What fun I had stamping out and coloring all these images from The Ton’s Magnificent Magnolia’s set!  I heat-embossed the magnolias in white onto Strathmore Watercolor paper, then used my Gansai Tambi watercolors to paint the image.  I cut the circle with Gina Marie Designs Stitched Oval dies,  and mounted it above a die-cut frame of soft yellow vellum.  The base card was embossed with Sizzix Floral Tapestry embossing folder.  Hero Arts Ribbon Messages sentiment and die-cut banner and a sprinkle of sequins completed this beautiful sympathy card.

I had this black & gold embossed background in my stash; it was made with Stampendous Jumbo Dahlia which I believe is no longer available on their website.
