I know I can’t be the only stamper out there who thinks that Tim Holtz and Brutus Monroe products would compliment each other wonderfully! I paired them up in this card and love the results! Let’s talk about what happened here! Starting on a base card of Lunchbox cardstock, I placed my grid stencil over it, then covered just a section of it with Deco Foil Transfer gel. I wiped off the excess then removed the stencil and let the gel dry to tackiness. I didn’t have my heat laminator at that point, so I just pressed the sheet of Drybrush Transfer Foil onto the tacky gel and rubbed it with a credit card to transfer the foil. I then turned the foil around to make the design go in the opposite direction and rubbed on some more. What a cool look! I heat-embossed the main image from Tim Holtz’ Road Trip set onto a piece of watercolor cardstock, then colored it in with Zigs, roughed up the edges with my scissors and sponged some Raven Detail ink to make it pop. On my base card with the foiled design, I stamped out the tire tracks with Hickory Smoke distress oxide ink, then stamped the other images in the background to fill in the space. Look at all that texture!I loved combining the products from two great companies! I wonder if Tim and Christopher have met in real life?! Perhaps a collaboration is in the future! I hope so! In the meantime, I hope you’ve poked around on Brutus Monroe’s website to see what new toys you’d like to play with!
Sometimes it’s hard to come up with great “man cards” and I certainly am known for making tons of florals! But over the years I’ve created some masculine cards which I really love and want to share with you today! My first one is made using a very old, retired Stampin Up set called Fly Fishing. I’ve had it for many years and will never get rid of it! I used Stampin Up’s retired Old World Map and Crackle background stamps, Crumb Cake ink, and the images from Fly Fishing. Sponging ink around the edges and roughing them up gives this card a great distressed look! How about that lifted corner with a fishing fly stamped behind it?! 🙂 This card was also made with Stampin Up’s retired Old World Map and a very cool texture stamp which I’ve had for years. The ship image is one I bought from a Facebook stamping group, and I don’t know who made it. I think the little knotted twine gives this an added nautical feel! Okay, so a beer card!!! I made this for my husband and he loved it! I used Unity Stamp’s Keep Calm- Have A Beer set and embossed it in black then colored the beer with Zig markers. I added Crystal Effects clear glue as a glaze to depict the glass…just wish I’d thought to add beer foam somehow! The sentiment is also from awesome Unity Stamps! What guy doesn’t love a card with a vintage car?! I found and printed off this map of Vermont, sizing it down to fit my card and used images from Tim Holtz’ set Road Trip. The Chevelle stamp is made by Deep Red Stamps company. A fun baseball themed card using Stampin Up’s Take Me Out To The Ballgame and assorted texture stamps. The base card was embossed and sponged with ink to make the stars stand out. I love this card! This card was made especially for my husband who was taking guitar lessons at the time. The sentiment was perfect and the brown metal thingie is something I’d had in my stash for ages! I think it all came together beautifully! Isn’t this so serenely beautiful?! The main image is from Northwoods Rubber Stamps and I just love it! The base card was embossed with a pine branch embossing folder. I used Stampin Up’s Woodgrain background stamp on the sentiment strip. Here’s another ship card using the wonderful set Getting There by Tim Holtz! Distress oxide inks make this background so GORGEOUS!! 😀 Note: more aging/distressing/tearing and roughing up! I can’t stop looking at this card!! Lastly, I’ll end with this cool train card which I copied from one I found on Pinterest! Tim Holtz Getting There train and tickets…I hope you enjoyed my array of masculine cards and are inspired to create some of your own!
I’ve made a number of masculine cards over the years using trucks and cars; they’re a popular image for the guys in our lives and I enjoy the break from florals! This card was made using a car from the long-retired Classic Convertibles set by Stampin Up. I heat-embossed the image in black then cut it out and colored with Zig markers. I needed a map background so googled Vermont road maps and printed this off on the computer and roughed up the edges after smudging with Pumice Stone and Walnut Stain distress inks. The Route 66, tire track and Road Trip images are from Tim Holtz’ Road Trip set and I stamped those right over the map. I used a diamond-plate embossing folder on the base card and smudged Walnut Stain distress ink over the raised part to get the grungy look. The sentiment is from Unity Stamp’s I’d Go Anywhere set. Another awesome vintage car from Stampin Up’s set, colored and cut out. I printed out this map of Vermont, smudged Pumice Stone distress ink around the edges, stamped the mileage stamp in red from the same Tim Holtz set and the sentiment from Fiskars Let’s Get Lost was heat-embossed onto the map. This was a quick and easy card! For this card I used Deep Red Rubber Stamp’s Chevelle, colored and cut out. The same printed out Vermont map with more images from the Tim Holtz Road Trip set and the sentiment is from The Stampin Place. The interstate sign image is from the Fiskars set I mentioned previously and it has an empty space for whatever numbers you choose! I stamped in the 89 because that’s our main highway here in Vermont! I smudged ink around the edges, roughed it up with my scissors, then tore and curled up a corner for a fun, distressed look! Layered onto a red panel, then a black card base, I think this is a pretty cool card! Another combination of Stampin Up and Tim Holtz! The awesome embossed background is Tim Holtz Travel Signs on kraft cardstock, smudged with Walnut Stain distress ink. A strip of colorful Tim Holtz patterned paper on a narrow panel of red card stock really pops! The last in my series of trucks and cars, this truck is from Deep Red Stamps as well! I stamped it in the center of a piece of white card stock, then masked it in order to stamp the other images around it. They’re from Papertrey Ink Stylish Sentiments . I then uncovered the truck, colored it with a red Zig marker and glazed it with a coat of Glossy Accents. The PTI set came with the little star stamp which I randomly stamped in red around the card front. I trimmed the panel down to layer onto black, then onto a base card of Stampin Up Crumb Cake on which I’d embossed their folder called World Traveler. I hope you enjoyed this series of masculine cards!
Did you know that I’m a motorcycle rider?! I began riding in 2012 and shortly after created a line of biker cards under the name of Rubber Side Down! A friend recently gifted me with this awesome retired set from Stampin Up and I immediately got busy! I began with a piece of Strathmore watercolor paper and heat-embossed the motorcycle and other image in black. I then created the background using Ranger Distress Oxide inks, Faded Jeans, Black Soot, Pumice Stone, Broken China and Fossilized Amber. I typed out the sentiment on the computer; it seems fitting for the stormy look! Road Trip is from Tim Holtz’ set called Road Trip! 🙂
Here’s another Rubber Side Down card; I used Fired Brick, Fossilized Amber, Faded Jeans, Iced Spruce and Black Soot distress oxide inks (I LOVE those inks!!!) and the Route 66 image from one of Tim Holtz’ sets called Road Trip . I added the tire tracks from Tim Holtz’ Road Trip set and stamped a background of images from the Stampin Up set onto my card base.
