Hi there! Today I’d like to share a series of cards I’ve made recently! I was poking around in my Instagram saved cards collection and came across THIS one made by Maura R. It’s vivid colors and bold design struck me anew and so I decided it was time to live up to my CopyCat name and have a go at replicating it! I found a flower sketch on Pinterest that was similar to Maura’s huge blossom and printed 4-5 copies out onto watercolor paper. Pictured above is the first card I made using Altenew’s Watercolor Brush markers, a black Zig for the bold outlines and a black Posca pen for the finer details. A spattering of black and white paint added the final detail before I added the Tim Holtz stickers, raised up off the panel.I loved making my first card so much that I jumped right into a second one, this time a Slimline style and used a lot of purple and blue on the blossom. I love how that orange background really makes the flower pop! More Tim Holtz stickers finish the card with a meaningful sentiment.Because a combination of orange and aqua really appeal to me, I made another card like my first one.My fourth card features a jade green blossom with a deep red background; I love the unusual color of this flower and it’s yellow leaves!Another blue and orange card!

Hi there, friends! I apologize for neglecting my blog for so long but I’m back today with some cards I made last fall but never shared here! Let me tell you how I got all these beautiful stamps! My friend, Janice is an avid horse lover and has a nice collection of horse stamps! One of our daughters became a rider in the past year and I wanted to make her some horse cards so I borrowed one of Janice’s stamps! It’s such a great design that I decided to look it up on ebay to see if I could find my own and was thrilled to see that the seller had not just one but three beautiful horse stamps by Coronado Stamp Company! Each one was listed for $14 apiece and although that was a little pricey for me, I ordered one anyway. I was shocked to get a message from the seller the next day saying she’d made a mistake and sent me ALL the stamps for the price of one and to keep them! Uh, sure!! 😀 (P.S. I did offer to return the other two but she declined my offer.) Because it’s been a while since I made these cards, I’m trying to remember the process! But it seems that I basically sponged panels of Bristol Smooth card stock with a variety of distress and oxide inks and then added spatters of water, white and or black paint. Such an easy way to add beautiful detail and interest! I then stamped and heat-embossed the horses over the distressed panels after dusting them generously with anti-static powder! I am just thrilled with how striking each card turned out! This is my favorite background with all the colors! I made this collection for Courtney and she loves them all; which one is your favorite? Can you see the faint geometric pattern in the background of this card? It’s Altenew’s Pattern Play-Hexagon background stamp and I spritzed it with water then laid it gently onto the distress panel, removed it and patted the panel dry with a paper towel. I think that adds a little extra to the card, don’t you? I haven’t made anymore horse cards since these but it’s good to know I have some great stamps to work with when I do! Thanks for stopping by!
Hey! Welcome back! I’ve been remiss in keeping up my blog this summer but want to share this colorful creation with you! I recently bought a set of Altenew’s Watercolor Brush markers in the Spring Garden collection and wanted to use lots and lots of color! This gorgeous floral image is a background stamp from The Ton called Anemone Garden and I began by embossing it with gold onto a panel of Bristol Smooth watercolor paper. Aren’t those markers so cool? They have a barrel filled with color and you just squeeze the sides (like we do a water brush!) to release the ink. It took a little practice to figure out just how much to squeeze but to paint this image, I first brushed a little water onto a petal then dropped ink from the marker into it, letting the water move the ink initially. In true Alex Syberia style, I added several colors to the petals, creating a multi-colored array of fabulousness! I filled in the background with black to make the colors pop even more! Setting that panel aside to dry, I pulled out a white card base and again, heat-embossed Anemone Garden in gold onto it. I trimmed down the watercolored panel using my new Sizzix Thinlet Stacked Deckle dies and then layered it onto a panel of gold metallic card stock to frame it. I mounted the framed panel to my base card and added a sentiment from Taylored Expressions Simple Strips set which I’d also embossed in gold. Two little gems adorn the ends of the Sentiment Strip for a final detail! I loved making this glorious card and using some new products! Thanks for stopping by!
Hi there! I’m back with another Alex Syberia-inspired card using her fabulous dot-coloring technique! Check out some other’s cards with dots HERE! I was particularly inspired to create my card after seeing THIS one of hers! What a riotous explosion of color!! I just had to make one of my own! Before I begin a card, I often think to myself, “Now, what can I do to make this card especially striking or unusual?” So that’s why I thought of the red background! Not something we see that often in our cardmaking community! I began by stamping and masking my Stampendous Small Hellebore image onto a panel of Bristol Smooth card stock. I then added the leaves and little floral sprig from Altenew’s Crown Bloom set. Unfortunately, I didn’t make a video of this process. I wish I had! But as always, I created my background first with many layers of red Zig Clean Color Brush markers, placing the darkest color next to the stamped images then smudging and squiggling the color outward using a lighter shade. The Flesh Color marker is my blender, adding a lighter tone without being too heavy. After filling in the background to my satisfaction, I began on the flowers and leaves, using shades of aqua for the blossoms and many shades of green for the leaves. A little gray and yellow kept the floral sprigs clean and simple against the explosion of colors everywhere else! Next, I used my Copic markers to add the colorful dots randomly over the whole panel, making some larger than the others. I love this fun technique which adds such an unexpected dimension to a card! Lastly, I thought that Taylored Expressions new Simple Strips sentiments on black would make a nice contrast to the background, so I heat-embossed them with white, lifted each strip with a little foam tape and arranged them on my card. Aren’t they perfect?! I LOVE how this came out and will certainly be making more dotty cards in the future! Thanks for visiting!
Today’s card is again inspired by the colorfully creative Alex Syberia and this card I found on her Instagram feed! I love the unusual size of the card and of course, the bold, bright colors! So, I decided to make one similar to hers!I began by cutting a four inch wide strip from a nine inch long watercolor pad, thus getting a 4″x9″ panel to work on. I dusted it completely with my anti-static pouch in order to stamp Altenew’s Crown Bloom and Beautiful Day sprig using Brutus Monroe’s Gilded embossing powder. I had to do a bit of masking to achieve the elongated design similar to Alex’s.
When my design was in place, I pulled out my darkest teal Zig marker and began by lightly “scribbling” a little color into each nook and cranny, then adding water with a water brush to soften and spread the color. I did this section by section until the whole design was surrounded by a soft sea of color! I decided to color my blossoms with shades of orange, red and yellow as they’re opposite blue on the color wheel and pack a vibrant punch! I can’t even list the colors I used as there were so many; I kept adding layers upon layers, drying often in between.Initially, I’d colored the little “seedy” looking things in the flower center with black and brown, but went over them with the same purple I’d colored the tiny blossoms on the sprigs.You can really see the pretty purple centers in this photo! When I was satisfied with the depth of color in the Crown Blooms I began to add to the background by spattering on wet purple, aqua, red and black ink and used my markers to fill in some of the crannies with additional dots. After stamping lightly my new Vintage Note stamp from Stampendous around the images, I heat-embossed the Unity Stamps sentiment in black directly to my watercolored panel then mounted it onto a base of ivory card stock. I am SO loving how this card turned out! And I already have my next Alex Syberia project planned!! Stay tuned! 😀
Welcome! I’d like to share two cards I made this week using a “dots” technique inspired by the amazing Alex Syberia! I’ve been fascinated by her work and her riotous use of color plus the unique way she incorporates dots into her cards! You won’t believe your eyes when you check out her blog! In the meantime, I recently printed off a couple of floral images I found on Pinterest; I resized the image down to fit an A2 card and then just got busy coloring with my Copic markers! Isn’t this floral spray beautiful?! I enjoyed branching out a little with my colors, trying to loosen up and be more creative! I opted for muted tones and layered color upon colors. This particular image came with a pale gray background so all I did was use the colorful “pointillism” style which Alex is known for to fill in around the blossoms and leaves. Isn’t it fun?! Here’s the second card I made, using another floral spray image from Pinterest and a slightly less colorful use of the dots technique. I began coloring with my Tim Holtz distress markers, Rusty Hinge, Dried Marigold and Tattered Rose for the blossoms and Peacock Feathers, Broken China and Evergreen Bough for the leaves! I wasn’t satisfied with the depth of color from just the distress markers so went over the images again with Copics. I use so many different Copic markers that I feel it would be too overwhelming to list them all. But the Copics definitely boosted the color! You can see that I made dots of black, gray, peach and aqua, then added white gel pen dots afterwards. I also added shading to the leaves and flowers with a pale gray marker. To create the background I added more gray with Hickory and Pumice Stone distress markers and used a water brush to spread it in a lovely watercolor-y manner! (That buckled my paper a bit as it’s only 110# card stock.) The next steps were to stamp the beautiful Vintage Note by Stampendous with Pumice distress ink around the main image, then heat-embossed the sentiment (from Altenew’s Beautiful Day set) using Brutus Monroe’s Golden Gourd embossing powder for a perfect match! I mounted this panel onto a soft gray base card and attached a strip of Tangerine Glitterstock along the edge for a little bit of bling! Three shimmery sequins were my final touch! I leave you with this very closeup photo of my card, showing off the lovely colors and interesting dots!
